Reason for the Season Guide

For many, Christmas might look a little different this year. But that doesn’t mean we have to compromise on how much love and kindness we share with our families and communities. Faith Voters has made this list of Christmas traditions that reflect the real reason for the season—reflecting Christ’s love here on earth.

Family Scripture Reading

This old time tradition gives us time to reflect on the true reason for the season even as the world does its best to distract us. Gather round your family, friends, and loved ones to give thanks to God for sending his only son for us.

Switch off the news and turn on Christmas music

Music is special in how it helps us connect and focus on the reason for the season. Whether it be “Silent Night”, “O Come All Ye Faithful”, or “Joy to the World”, listening to the right music will help put you in the right mindset for Christmas.

Give Back

We can’t always get everything we need on our own. Remind yourself and those around you of the importance of giving. Make a small box of food or toy donations and deliver it to a local shelter or food bank so that someone else feels a total stranger’s kindness this Christmas.

Walk with Kindness

People aren’t the only ones in need of love this season. Show kindness to all God’s creatures and walk a local shelter dog. Then make sure to give it some cuddles. Its sweetness will be sure to refresh your spirit and make you appreciate the little things in life. And the best part is you don’t even have to worry about COVID when you give a pup a hug.

Find your local animal shelter with the button below. Then call ahead to confirm that they are allowing visitors and volunteers during COVID.

Save a Life

If you’re healthy and able, giving blood can be a great way to know you’re having a direct impact on someone’s life this holiday season. Especially if you’re tight on cash and food and toy donations aren’t possible, giving blood is a great way to give back.

Quality Time with Children

Children’s magical perception of Christmas always lifts spirits. And spending quality time with them doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Consider a Christmas craft like these mini Christmas tree decorations. All you need is some glue and twigs!
